Kit Review
The Airfix tooling is the only kit of this helicopter in any scale. It is very old, but it is still acceptable, being of similar quality to a short-run injection-moulded kit today. It captures the look of the Scout well but suffers from overscale rivetting. The latest boxing suffers from having off-register decals and no colour scheme diagrams whatsoever (the diagrams used to be printed on the side of the box, and the artwork has not been carried over to the internal documentation). The modeller is given an impression of the UK Army variant, but would have no idea of what the Jordanian colour scheme would be if he had not seen it before. All the more frustrating as this scheme is rarely published. The modeller is advised to purchase earlier boxings with the colour scheme diagram if those schemes are to be modelled and the modeller has no access to other reference. In the case of the Scout, substitution of the landing skis and other struts with soldered brass wire is advisable to enhance authenticity as well as strength.
