Kit Reviews
Despite the many releases of kits of the MiG-29 over the years, the definitive kit is still yet to be made. Not a single kit released to date, from any manufacturer, adequately captures the shape of the real thing. This was understandable back when the MiG-29 was first revealed to the general public and reliable information was scant, but now that the MiG-29 has become one of the most thoroughly documented aircraft around, this situation is inexcusable. Many kits released by the major manufacturers before reliable information was available have not been replaced by revised tooling. The Italeri kit is generally perceived as the most superior, but is still a clumbsy rendition, especially the twin seat variant. The Intech kit has also been described as the most accurate, but we have not seen an example of this tooling, so we cannot verify this, although we suspect it to be a copy of the Italeri tooling. Until a manufacturer sees fit to rectify this situation, the modeller is forced to combine parts from several kits and perform major surgery.
The aftermarket decal situation is obviously quite different, as can be seen from the listing. If you would like to see a completely new accurate tooling of the MiG-29 released, please sign our petition.

Kondor MiG-29 SMT
Very crude mouldings, passably accurate, with raised panel lines. We found during construction that all location slots had to be enlarged with a scalpal. Jet nozzles are incorrect and toy-like, with a large gap between the 1st stage petals and jet nozzles. Surprisingly, the canopy is the most accurate we have seen for a standard single-seat MiG-29, but incorrect for an SMT, neither is it transparent. We recommend buying this kit to cannibalise the SMT hump and canopy to graft onto the Italeri tooling. Contains the following stores: Ch-29T, Ch-31P, PTB-1500 centreline tank, R-27ER/AE, R-60MK, R-73E, R-77.
