Kit Review
MiG-21F-13 Revell 04346
Initial impression is that a good level of detail is supplied overall. The wings match the drawings in the 4+ book. Well detail is moulded into the upper wing half where it should be, resulting in a well of correct depth. The openings for the wing wells in the lower half of the wings are crude and do not match the outline in the book. The nose wheel well is moulded as a separate component and is quite well done; nice and deep. The front wheel is moulded separately from the oleo fork. The canopy is moulded in 2 separate pieces to allow an open position, and a part is included for the secondary interior windscreen. The kit features separate airbrakes and an instrument panel moulded in clear plastic. The cockpit has detail integrally moulded on the inner walls. There are 2 UB-16 rocket pods, 1 490 lt centreline drop tank, and 2 unidentified bombs.

On close inspection some flaws with the shape are revealed. The tailplanes are a little oversized compared to the drawings, the flutter balances are too slender; and the inner tips of the trailing edge should have an angled clipped corner, not radiussed. The wheels are completely incorrect, are unuseable (tyres are far too malnourished), and will need replacing. Riveting is overscale. The canopy rear component is too shallow; it does not rise high enough to meet the main component. The fin trailing edge has too much rake, the ECM bulge at the tip is too slender. The profile of the fin tip slopes down towards the rear too much; it should be more level. The nose is crudely moulded and too conical in side profile. The ventral strake is incorrect in profile. Overall: disappointing, could have been better, but the faults are repairable.

MiG-21MF Fujimi
These comments from Gordon Zammit : "All Fujimi kits that are labelled 'MF' contain the same spine and fin sprue as the 'bis' boxed versions. This is incorrect, so one is only able to make a MiG-21bis from Fujimi kits labelled 'MF'. This affects the following kits: 27024, 270241, 35106, 35126, AH23, and H-24. It is likely that the Fujimi 'RF' labelled version is also incorrect, as the MiG-21RF was only a modified MF version, and as far as I know were never converted from the bis version. The recce pod included with the Fujimi kit is also incorrect. Some reviewers also say that the cross section on the Fujimi kit is also incorrect, but personally I like the Fujimi kits as bis versions, as they look convincing to me and are easy to build. If one wants to build a MiG-21MF, the Kopro and Plastyk offerings are best as the spine and tailfin are correct in these toolings."
