Kit Review
Revell 04350
At long last we finally have a decent injection moulded Hunter. The subject of one of our petitions, Revell has answered the call and chosen to begin with an F6.

Parts breakdown allows for other single seat variants, but not a twin seater. The kit features optional airbrake positions, and raised cockpit detail, which is very good, as are the wheels, and separate wing flaps. The seat is well done for an injection moulded kit. The canopy is moulded in 2 parts to allow open or closed positions, and fits beautifully. There is a concession to the thickness of the plastic in that the contour of the fuselage spine immediately behind the canopy has been flattened a little to allow the canopy to pass over it. The main wheel well detail is good, but should have been moulded on the upper wing part, not the lower; the result is a well that is too shallow. The shape coincides fairly closely with David Crowley's dwgs in the Warpaint book, but there is disagreement about where the wing leading edge dogtooth starts. The only misgiving shapewise is the lack of a slight downward longitudinal alignment of the canopy towards the nose relative to the fuselage spine; it is actually horizontal. The mould was rushed, the surface wasn't finished properly, it still has scratch marks from the milling process.

The decals supplied with the kit are in almost perfect register; the precision is the best we have seen from a kit manufacturer in a long time. Colour saturation is good, hue is reasonably accurate; they are probably printed by Cartograf. Ordnance offered is basic: just 2 AIM-9 Siderwinders and 2 small drop tanks. We recommend this kit as the definitive tooling of the Hunter.
